This week we worked towards the ppp for andean theater presentation, we had to create a piece of report to sum up all of our ideas for the PPP and visions for the performance. After doing the part of the PPP corresponding to each, we had to send a report. Mine was for the change in routine that the people from the school, our audience, experience through the presentation. I said that we are used to have a calm and respectful, much like a prison for our minds in our daily life, but with the presentation, the audience was able to experience chaos i n a place were chaos is scarce, exploding moments in a calm place and picaresque characters in a place were people have to dress up as integer citizens in all time.
Analysis:
I was able to understand how the people from paucartambo not only enjoy the performance and celebration for the obvious reasons we know, such as the importance to the town or the religious/cultural meaning as well as clearly the show that it makes. I was able to see that people enjoy celebrations along this lines because of the "wild" feeling it creates, it sets you free, all the alcohol, the music, the spectacle and the joy from the performers gets you into a different environment and a different mood (change in the routine) that can be understand as another state of mind in which the audience gets involved so much that it is actively participating and enrolling in action. We could say that the people from Paucartambo and us, the school audience, are not that different because we both can engage in that same activity of the mind set.
Connections:
It is like when you go to party, you have another mind set, such as a sports car when it goes to a track, you can engage to be ready to enjoy even if you are not in the mood just because you feel released from that prison that society creates through educational system and then when you are released, you can activate your most deep analitical sense and just simply enjoy without knowing why. This exact thing happens with the celebration, the music, the chaos, the environment, the people make it feel as if it is a real pary, which in a sense it is, and you can just relax and flow with the current.
Reflection:
It is clear for me now that first of all you have to think deeply in the audience you are presenting the performance to but more important to know you performance well enough to realize that you can actually present it to almost anyone because this is a mind setter performance that actually suits any like and any idea of theater due to its different interpretation and effect in people.
Your (missing) final question could be: What are the ways in which a director can create the conditions for the audience to engage with the conventions of the play? And before, you could have explained more systematically (not just listed) how those conditions are created in Paucartambo, and then how you pretend to create those conditions in the school.
